Infinity Battle Report - A Few Good Men Part 1

Recently, Infinity has been somewhat popular in our gaming club, to a point that we can do "Infinity Nights" every thursday. To promote the game more and more, my regular opponent, Alkım, came to me with the idea of preparing a battle report of a small game. I like reading battle reports and browsing through the pictures taken during the game; but honestly I thought that it would be hard for us to pull that off. You know, you can easily forget the details of the game or to take photos at the right times... Luckily, Alkım proved to be up for the task and wrote the entire report.

For the sake of readability, I will break this article in three posts. Hope you like reading it...

Nomad Plans

Alkım explains Nomad's plans:

"Moderators will act as a link team, providing bonuses to each other. The Moderator with Spitfire will be the hard hitter of this team. Also, the Lieutenant of the Nomad force is among them.

Sin-Eater will control and threaten a vast area on the battlefield, thanks to his Sniper Rifle. This model has Neurocynetics rule, which allows him to fire full bursts during ARO. As a drawback, his burst is reduced to 1 during the active turn.

With her Optical Disruptor Device (ODD) and high armor value, Reverend Moira will try to outshoot the best shooters of Ariadna force.

Two Morlocks will operate on their own. These low-cost models will harass the advancing enemy soldiers. Morlocks are chosen among the most dangerous convicts to be sent to firefights. Generally they are not expected to survive the fight. Being drugged with potent chemicals just before the fight, they gain random special abilities. They have the Impetuous rule which grants them a free order to be used to advance towards the enemy lines; but they are also Irregular, so they do not add their orders to the order reserve."

Ariadna Plans

Line Kazaks are the cheerleaders of the Ariadna force. They are low-cost troops that won't have much impact on the game. They are basically there to increase the total number of orders. If they manage to take down advancing Morlocks with AROs, it will be the icing on the cake.

The role of the Antipodes will depend on what Alkım will bring to the table. If the Nomad force is a camo-heavy force, I will try to take advantage of the Antipodes' Sensor ability to render them visible. If I am up against heavy shooters, they will run for a close combat. Had we been playing with mission objectives or special scenarios, their high movement would provide a huge advantage for me; but I will settle with this for now.

With his Autocannon, the TankHunter is capable of taking down everything that Alkım can possibly bring. Thanks to his camouflage ability, he will also have the surprise advantage. Since we are not playing with mission objectives, I will place him a bit deeper than I would do normally to provide him more shooting options.

Veteran Kazak is the real gem of this list. With his X-Visor and T2 Rifle, he is capable of causing serious damage from mid-range. He will be using the orders that the cheerleaders brings and hopefully will wreck the Nomad troops.

Battlefield and Scenario

Even though there are many scenarios and mission objectives for Infinity, we will be playing the good old annihilation to keep the game as simple as possible.

The battlefield looked like this:

Deployment and Kickoff

To decide who will start the game or deploy first, the Lieutenants make a face-to-face (FtF) Willpower roll. Nomads won the roll, decided the side he would deploy and wanted the Ariadnian force to deploy first. Then I chose to go first.

I deployed the cheerleaders to my left hand side. This is  the opposite direction of where the fights would take place in my opinion.

Line Kazaks were deployed away from the thick of battle
Antipode Controller was deployed to the second floor of the building on the my right. Below her, there were the Antipodes on the ground under 2 camo markers. Some troops have the Camouflage skill. The whereabouts of this troops are known roughly, thanks to the orbital surveillance and other tech stuff. When deploying such models, a camo marker is placed instead of the actual model. Next to the same building, there is another camo marker which represents TankHunter.

I withheld one of my troops in reserve to deploy after Alkım's deployment. It was Nomads' turn to deploy now.

Alkım hid the Moderator link team in the building on his right hand side. Between the building doors, the Moderator with Spitfire had a decent view of the center of the battlefield, extending to the far left. Some of the Moderators were watching different directions in order to prevent any airborne troops to enter the battlefield. Next to them a Morlock was deployed. He was "blessed" with X-Visor ability from the chemicals.

To his left hand site, Alkım only deployed the Reverend Moira and the other Morlock, who gained Valor: Dogged ability. He also kept one model in reserve. Below are shots after the deployments:

My last model, Veteran Kazak went to my right hand side again, wherehe would gang up with the Antipodes. On the other hand, Alkım deployed his last model, Sin-Eater with Sniper Rifle, to a vintage point on top of the building in the center of his deployment zone.

Sin-Eater threatening the Veteran Kazak from high ground

Burak: I think I managed to deploy according to my plans. The Line Kazaks are away from the enemy. The Lieutenant is the leftmost one and as safe as she can be.

I am not planning to rush the Antipodes to the enemy. If I fail to kill the Morlock on this flank, he can seriously hurt them with his Chain Rifle.

The last model Alkım deployed, Sin-Eater, put me in a very difficult position. Veteran Kazak is sitting ducks for him now and I need to do something to keep him from harm's way. TankHunter is my number one choice to hunt him down.

Alkım: I understand that Burak was not expecting the Sin-Eater. Deploying one of the Morlocks on the right will make it hard for him to advance. It will also be hard to shoot down Burak's cheerleaders; but my Moderators are hard to take down too. I think the camo markers are Antipodes but I suspect there was another model...

Deployment is over and the game is about to start. Stay tuned for the next post to read more about the game...
