Mega Game at MetuCon'12

MetuCon, Turkey's biggest RPG gaming convention took place last month. I and my usual gaming buddy Mr. Lee were there to play a big game: A 6000 pointer. I know it is not THAT big to begin with; but keep in mind that we both traveled some 600kms with our armies, terrains, mats and other stuff to make it happen.

The game was an epic battle between  two races which hated each other since the beginning of the time: My dwarfs vs. Mr. Lee's green horde. There were about 850 miniatures total on the table plus the scenery. Before the game, we both feared that deploying so much stuff could make the gaming experience suffer and whatnot; but it turned out to be the opposite. We both were fairly quick during the setup and deployment, within less than one hour, all the minis were unpacked and were ready on their trays, the table setup was complete and the regiments were deployed. The greenskin deployment was state of art especially. They barely fit on 4x12' battlefield :)

We were ready to start the game by 11:30 or so and there was already a crowd around the table. During the entire game, we had bystanders, question askers, jokers and all kind of weird guys; because you know, it was an RPG convention. Jokes aside, it was very nice to see the crowd around us who were interested in the game although most of them had no clue about wargaming. As you can guess, lots of trash talks and taunts (even some Shakespearean ones) happened during the game. Being a gentleman, I won't be sharing them here of course; but I'll just say that Mr. Lee has some voice recording from that day. That's all I'm saying.

The game itself flew quickly too, by 6 pm we were packed up and ready to go. We both didn't know what we were doing exactly and more importantly didn't have a solid plan or didn't have a plan to begin with. Lots of dice rolled, lots of "I swear too much" incidents happened and in the end we had smiling faces and hurting backs. The only thing I would have liked to do about that day was printing some posters and flyers about our game. We had an idea of printing somethings like an old classic boxing match advertisement between BuRock vs Mr. Lee and handing them over to the convention crowd; but we just couldn't make it. It would have been a good remembrance from that day. Well, next time then...

Spreading the Word in Style: Sorcerer-Prophet on Great Taurus

First of all, sorry for the lack of updates. I was out of the town to attend to MetuCon, the biggest convention in Turkey. We played a mega-game with Mr.Lee there: A 6k pointer dwarfs vs his infamous green horde; but more on that later...

Now, here I have a sorcerer-prophet on great taurus figure for you this time. This kit is from Scibor Games and it's called Moscal General on War Bull. A truly awesome model, way better than Citadel's OOP great taurus model in my opinion. To be honest, I'd even choose Scibor's over ForgeWorld's Bale Taurus; but I've never seen it in person, so no more comments on this...

Let me talk about the miniature itself first. It's a no-brainer choice for any chaos dwarf general who wants to field a mounted sorcerer lord. It looks cool and affordable among the other alternatives, so I think that it is selling quite nicely. The packaging however, was very poor. Thrown in a box with no protection other than a couple of ziplock bags, the packaging neither does justice to its contents nor helps it to brave the dangers of international shipments. One of the legs of the taurus was broken when it arrived to me; but the packaging was so bad that I was just grateful that it was only a leg what was broken.

Rambled enough already... OK, this beauty stayed on my desk more that enough so I decided to finish it asap. Finished it on last friday and even managed to field it in a couple of games on saturday. As you can see from the stock photos, no conversion work done on the mini, it is beautiful as is... The building of the mini was fairly quick. Although there are 8 pieces plus the body, they caused no problem at all. Just a warning for you though: Be careful when removing the wings from the sprues. The parts which connect to the sprue might get damaged and you might lose some of the details easily otherwise.

As for the painting, I really can't remember how many layers there are... really... Basically what I did was something like this: For body, the "hottest" part is the inside of the taurus, right? So, I started with a white undercoat and then painted the mini to a very bright yellow. Then I highlighted my way up: darker yellow, orange and three different reds, the final being the mechrite red. For the wings, the hottest part is the parts which are closest to the body, so I used a phoenix-like painting there.  I think it turned out quite well, although I've never done anything like this before. Oh, and if you haven't done any Hot Wings or KFC jokes when reading this paragraph, gratz to you... :)

Remember I noted that I took this beast to a couple of games on saturday, right? OK, while I was playing, one of our club members noticed the figure, then came and asked me:

Guy - Is that a flying bison over there?
Me - Why, yes? Why are you surprised?
Guy- I find it weird for hairy animals to have feathers on them...
Me - ...? :: roflmao ::

So anyways, enjoy... Hope it was worth the wait.

MetuCon 2010'da Warhammer

Bu sene MetuCon'u 23-25 Nisan tarihlerinde idrak ettik. Katılımın yoğun, organizasyonun da başarılı olduğu bu senenin MetuCon'unda, Karargah'tan gelen arkadaşların da katılımıyla, cumartesi günü bir WHFB turnuvası düzenledik.

Kurallar, İzmirCon'dakine oldukça benzerdi: 1500pts, açık liste usulü; fakat eliminasyon usulü değil de isviçre sistemini kullandık. Bu sayede her oyuncu 3 maç yaptı. Nihai skorlar ise, maç puanları artı modelcilik ve sportmenlik puanlarının toplamıyla oluştu. Toplam 8 kişinin katıldığı turnuva sonucu sıralama şu şekilde oluştu:

1. Fırat (Dark Elves)
2. Burak (Dwarfs)
3. Kyle (Daemons of Chaos)

Sportmenlik Ödülü: Efe
En İyi Boyalı Ordu: Kyle

Turnuvadaki 3 maçımda 2 massacre 1 de solid galibiyet almama rağmen 3 massacre ile birinci olan Fırat'ı geçemeyip ikincilikle yetindim, sağlık olsun. Esas önemli husus, son maçımda karşılaştığım Kyle ve Cheese of Chaos ordusunu massacre etmem oldu. Uzun süreden beri uzaklardan birbirimize meydan okuyorduk, sonunda yeşil sahalara çıkıp kimin daha iyi general olduğunu gösterme fırsatını buldum, heh... :)

Karargah kulübünden arkadaşlarla beraber katıldığımız bu ikinci organizasyonla beraber aramızdaki ilişkiler gitgide kuvvetleniyor. Artık gerçek manada ulusal bir organizasyon yapılabilecek altyapı yavaş yavaş oluşmaya başlıyor kanaatindeyim. bakalım zaman ne getirecek...

İlk "Unit Filler"im

23 Nisan tatilinde Ankara'da olacağım. MetuCon Bayramı bu sene 23-25 Nisan arası. Cuma ve pazar günleri LARP oynayacağım; ancak cumartesi günü Warhammer günü.

Aslında ilk başta, İzmirCon turnuvası için İzmir'e gelen Karargah Kulübü'nden Kyle ile 4000 puanlık bir maç yapma planımız vardı; ancak katılan Warhammerci arkadaşların sayısının artması üzerine, bir turnuva yapma ihtimali belirdi.

İster turnuva olsun, ister 4000 puanlık maç olsun, denemek için yaptığım rosterlerde şunu farkettim ki, core birliklerimin sayısı, olması gerekenin çok ama çok altında. Eksikleri tamamlamak için zamanım az olduğundan, bir unit filler yaptım.
Unit filler, rank and file birliklerde, birden çok modelin yerini kaplayan, o birlik için özel olarak temaya büründürülmüş minyatürlere verilen ad. Aslında uzun zamandır aklımda böyle bir şey yapmak vardı. Daha önceden bahsettiğim CoolMiniorNot sitesinde pek çok unit filler görmüştüm ve aklıma fikirler gelmişti.

Sonuç da fena olmadı gibi...
