Tutorial - How to Do Lava Bases

Finally I'm back with a new article. It's been a while since I last posted something here, due to a work trip; so I think it's time to write that lava base tutorial which has been in my mind for quite some time now.

As you may remember, when I decided to start collecting a chaos dwarf army, I opted for lava bases and started preparing them even before I had my very first miniatures. Below is a rough guide on how to prepare your own. Be warned though, since it will be pic heavy... kinda...

MATERIALS

OK, first, the materials. Here's a list of what you'll need:

Materials

- Balsa wood (I use 3mm thick planks)

- Bases (If you don't have bases, you can cut yours from balsa)

- Paints (I use Citadel's Skull White, Chaos Black, Blazing Orange, Fortress Gray, Badab Black and Ogryn Flesh washes, Vallejo's Model Color Red, Game Color Golden Yellow)

- Some gravel

- Hobby stuff like hobby knife, super glue, cutting board, file, PVA glue and a brush

TIP: If you are cutting your own base from balsa, tape each side of the balsa over the cutting line with a scotch tape. This will prevent the balsa from cracking and you'll get neater edges after each cut.

PREPARING THE BASE

The first work is designing the shape of the base. You wouldn't want the rocky part to cover all of your base, so cut a piece from balsa which is smaller than the base itself. It is possible to let some parts of the rocks to extend; but try not to be generous with that, otherwise you might have a hard time ranking up your troopers.

Once you cut the main rocky piece, it is time to carve it a little. Just improvise and deform the piece of balsa as you see fit: Cut slices over/under it, carve cracks on sides, wear it down from sides with file, anything goes here. You can add more, smaller rocky parts if you want. That will depend on the size of the base you are preparing. If it is a 20/25mm one, probably you won't need it; but if you are doing a bigger one, you will want more rocky parts.

TIP: You can pile up more than one layer of balsa for more elevated position. Even though this would help with ranking up, it would be better to reserve this approach for heroes and command groups or individual monsters.

Prepare as many rocky parts as you need and glue them to their places with super glue. After they are glued, use a sharp edge like the tip of the knife or the file to make some cuts. These cuts will look like some random crack patterns on the rocks and help adding some texture. Last step before we start painting is adding the gravel. Use small drops of PVA glue here and there and dip the base in gravel box to create patches of gravel on base. You can either add it on the rocky parts or would-be lava surface, it won't matter. I will show how to paint them accordingly.

TIP: Small patches of many graveled area looks the best. Don't overuse PVA glue. It will create bigger graveled areas.

At this point, we are ready to start painting our base. My 50mm base is looking like this:

PAINTING

For basecoat, you have two options to go either black or white. I preferred black only because I had many black spray cans laying around. Feel free to go on with white if you choose to do so.

After spraying it black, paint the lava sections with white. You might want to do two layers of white there for the best coverage. Then, it is time to paint the rocky parts and gravel. I use Fortress Gray for the job. It's best you use drybrush here; but don't worry if you botch it. You can fix it later.

Painting - First touches

After this point, make sure that each layer of paint is fully dried before applying the next color. I start with the Vallejo Golden Yellow for the first layer. Here is the trick on how to apply the paint: Before getting paint on your brush, dip it in water and wet the lava surface with water only. Not too much to spill over from the base; but it must be as wet as possible. This will help the paint diffuse and at the same time, will allow the whites to show from under, to represent the hottest parts of the lava. Below is a picture after applying the yellow:

TIP: Since you need to wait each layer of paint to dry completely, it would be a clever idea to do these bases in batches, like 10 or more at the same time.

Once the yellow is completely dry, we use the same technique again; but this time the color will be Blazing Orange.

TIP: The predominant color in lava should be orange, so if you want to "fix" some part of the lava that you don't like, use orange, but as diluted as possible.

You should see the glimpse of the final product by now, right? Well, we are almost there, just a few more steps. This time, we will use Vallejo Red. The technique is the same; but we won't be applying red everywhere. The parts with red will indicate the parts where the lava has started to "cool off", so you should only apply it to the parts where the lava meets the rocks, gravel and whatever is floating in the lava.

Finally, as the last step, I use Badab Black wash to represent the parts that "cooled off" completely. Wash all the parts you painted red with Badab Black. You can be more liberal with washing the gravel at this step for a more molten look. I also washed the rocky parts here to bring out the shadows more.

Time to drybrush the rocks and gravel one more now. Since we are about to wrap this up, try not to botch this time. After the drybrush, line highlight the edges of the rocks.

Normally, you can call it a base; but i like my lava bases shinier. Hence I go for one more highlight with Skull White. This time I highlight the edges of the base as well as the edges of the rocks and also, some parts of the gravel.

After the highlight is done, paint the edges of the base with black, or whatever color you use for it. Simple housekeeping job. As a final touch, my good friend Mr. Lee suggested that I wash the lava parts with Ogryn Flesh for a better blending and also for some glows.

FAQ and Errata for Tamurkhan is Available

Still haven't got a chance to read the Tamurkhan The Throne of Chaos book thoroughly except the Chaos Dwarf army list; but the guys at Forge World were quick enough to publish a FAQ & Errata. This three page document is intended to clarify some of the vague points on gaming aspects, like what weapon does a daemonsmith carry or can a K'daai destroyer be wounded always on natural 6s.

The document appears to be released due to huge demand from the chaos dwarfs community, since it only contains stuff about the Chaos Dwarf army list section and nothing more. If you are interested, it is available from Forge World website.

Monster Madness: K'daai Manburner

In my last article, I hinted you all that I had stuff under my sleeve, right? Here's what I promised: A K'daai Fireborn.

K'daais are lesser fire daemons, which are bound by daemonsmiths to serve a Chaos Dwarf army in battle. In The Legion of Azgorh list, there are some troop choices that do not have models released to represent them and K'daais are one of them. Although the Chaos Dwarf community sees the lack of the models as a chance to build or convert their own miniatures (most probably because of being used to be neglected, heh), I went on to look for suitable models to be used as K'daais.

The model I'm talking about is a fire elemental from Rackham's Confrontation line. It is long out of production so I had to pay a small fortune to get a hold on to this model; but it is worth every single penny. Being completely metal, this beast is 6.5cms (2.5") long and was an absolute bitch to put together. However, I must say that I am very happy the end product. Since it's a very cool looking (and very expensive) model, I'm thinking of using this as a K'daai Manburner, the unit champion.

Ok, as I said, it is a heavy, metal model, which came in 10 separate pieces. Hence, I needed to pin the shit out of (or into) it. I started with the head as it was the easiest part. Then, I moved on to the arms and attached each of the three claws to the joints. Once they were cured, assembled it all for good and pinned it on the base again. The effort was easily over three hours, phew...

When painting the K'daai, things were simpler. Basically there were two areas: Armor and fire. I did the armor parts the same way I did the normal troopers, no problems there. For fire, I started with white and then washed with gold yellow, blazing orange and baal red, in this order. For some glows, I applied a little ogryn flesh once the washes dried. After this point, it was all highlights. First with %50 white-gold yellow, then with the same mixture; but with more white.

After I finished painting the miniature, I added the basing elements. Yeah, I did the basing after I finished the model; because I thought it could be extremely hard to reach certain parts of the model. Added a few rocks here and there, which were built from balsa, and some grits to make up for rubble and molten rocks. Pretty much that was it.

War Machines Rock!

All wargamer would know that, although painting infantries is fun at the start to try out new color schemes and stuff, it can quickly get boring after you manage to get a sizeable unit ready. Well, that's what's happened here on my side and I went for a change ::drumroll:: A WAR MACHINE!

Big surprise, eh? A dwarf army and a war machine... Well, let me just say that I have more under my sleeve and I'll share them with you soon; but for now, yes, it's a war machine.

This one is from Mantic Games again, the one which they call Katsuchan Rocket Launcher; but I'll be using it as a Deathshrieker Rocket Launcher in my Chaos Dwarf army. First, let me talk about the model a little.

Like all of Mantic's Abyssal Dwarfs line, these miniatures are also hybrid ones. So, you'll be doing conversion work again. The crew miniatures are built using the "normal" dwarf crew miniatures, with adding chaosy headwear to them. Also, there are only two crew miniatures per war machine, so I needed to use one of the infantries from the army box to make it three. But don't worry, apart from the body, there are enough bits to make a third crew miniature.

The war machine itself is a little more different in origin. The chassis is from the Balefire Catapult of Mantic's Undead line, with metal conversion bits again. This time I have no complaints though, since the bits really make the war machine look different than what it was and cool at the same time. Also, the bits fit very well to where they are supposed to go. Decent job Mantic, ::cough:: this time...

The painting stage of the miniatures was very easy. I used the very same color scheme with the rest of my army mostly. I kinda regret that there were wooden parts on the war machine though. I would have preferred to have an all-metal one which would be more fitting for a Chaos Dwarf force; but in the end, meh is all I can say.

When building the base, I wanted to have all the miniatures to be able to sit comfortably on it. Now when I look at it, I think I went extreme there, with the base is about 90mm square, oops... :) Not entirely happy with it and will definitely try and make it smaller when I build the second one.

Just for the sake of completeness, I'd like to make a note that there are also three more infantries finished, to increase the size of the infantries to 24. Decent size to be fielded in small games, so I have no complaints there either.

So, all and all, I have my very first war machine ready to serve Hashut's will. And it rocks, as in rock-it launcher. And yes, I can do word jokes in English too. Or so I think... Anyways, have some photos here:

New Recruits: A Unit Filler and Some More

After a sub-optimal painting weekend, here I am, with a few more models for my Chaos Dwarfs army. I painted some more infantries to make up a few more ranks, so nothing new there, except the very first unit filler.

Educated eyes would have already recognized the bits used i believe. Most of them are from Mantic's again; but there are some bits from Games Workshop products too, like Marauder flail, Chaos Spawn bits, etc... The base is 40mm square so, this one will occupy 4 models' places, which i think the best size for a unit filler. Like before, the base is built from balsa and painted by myself.

This conversion idea was in my mind since the first time i saw the Mantic sprues, though I suspected that I'd need to storm through my girlfriend's ornaments box to make it happen, say, for chains and stuff. That plan was deemed unnecessary when I saw the flails of the Marauders box. When I asked my good fella, Mr. Lee, about the looks of it during the WiP stage, he suggested me that the doggies need to look more "chaosy". Hence, I added the spawn bits to make it happen.

There are a few more photos, to show the other regular infantries I managed to finish. My Chaos Dwarfs army is growing slowly, and sooner rather than later, their skills will be put to test. With many proxigors of course...

Onward Into Battle: First Game with the Chaos Dwarfs

Last month, I was visiting my good friend, Mr. Lee, to celebrate his birthday in İstanbul. We had the most pleasant weekend, spending all our time painting, drinking and playing games. He had a copy of Tamurkhan book by the way, so we also spent some time to explore it and exchange ideas about the tainted stunties.

So, since I had 9 miniatures ready and "da Book", we thought, hey, why don't we play a game with the Chaos Dwarfs. Minutes later, we were preparing our rosters. In that 1500pts game, I played the Chaos Dwarfs and Mr. Lee summoned his filthy goblin horde and we were ready.

Although my mate had more than enough terrain for Infinity, which we generally play, he had next to nothing to be used as fantasy terrain. Hence, we had to use pieces of paper for forests, a book for a hill, even a dreadnaught for an idol. That's what I call determination, heh...

So, we were rolling the dice once again, but this time, to see the chaos dwarfs in action. For the first time in 8th edition. If you want to see how they performed, please see the battle report on Mr. Lee's blog. Yes, I am doing this for him to have some visitors. Poor guy needs it :)

First Chaos Dwarfs are Ready

The header pretty much tells everything, isn't it? Well, I had this very first batch ready for quite some time now; but since my old camera was broken, I couldn't take pictures of them, grr... But luckily for me, I've been a good boy last year apparently and my gf decided to buy me a new, shiny camera. So, here are the pictures.

The color scheme I went was a recipe from a mate of mine. When I decided on collecting a Chaos Dwarfs army, he was kind enough to offer me this color scheme. You can read more on the color scheme at his blog, Mr. Lee's Painting Emporium. He also started building a Chaos Dwarfs army, with an Ottoman theme; but the commission paintings are eating up all his time. Hence I think it will be quite some time before seeing his army.

Lava Bases

Here's a no brainer: Chaos Dwarfs and lava bases... Once I decided to collect CDs, I started looking for tutorials online on how to build lava bases even before I bought the models.

Since I am originally a dwarf player, my painting skills are not very versatile. So, collecting this army is helping me to hone my skills too. Following a tutorial I found online and modifying it a little to suit my needs, I built and painted a bunch of lava bases. I used balsa wood to built them and needless to say methinks, they are fully magnetized.

I plan to publish a tutorial on how to built these my way soon, so stay tuned and enjoy the pics:

Starting a Chaos Dwarf Army

With the new Forge World book, Tamurkhan The Throne of Chaos is out now, I am one of the jumpers on the bandwagon to collect a Chaos Dwarf army.

The Tamurkhan book is a campaign book actually; but there is a Chaos Dwarf army list called The Legion of Azgorh, which is a sanctioned army list and can be used in tournaments and such. Encouraged by that, I went on to buy a couple boxes of Mantic Games's Abyssal Dwarfs army deal. This product line is essentially Mantic's regular dwarfs, plus some metal, "chaosy" bits to make them Abyssal Dwarfs. I didn't know that when I bought them and was very surprised to see Mantic, making me to convert their minitures; but you can only build & paint what's put before you, so, who cares... :)

From those boxes, I had 60 infantries, 20 ranged guys and 2 warmachines with 2 crew each. Not a big number actually, especially when you think that you can get almost twice this number of miniatures if you buy regular dwarfs. I think including metal bits took its toll there.

Anyways, that was a quick review of the Mantic miniatures. I will be posting what I do with them soon.

Infinity - Ariadna: Veteran Kazak

Son zamanlarda ihmal ettiğim Infinity minyatürlerime yeniden ilgi göstermeye başladım. Atölyemden en son çıkan figür, yine bir Ariadna askeri olan Veteran Kazak. Bu figür de Ariadna Starter Pack'tan çıkan figürlerden biri. T2 Rifle ve X Visor ekipmanları ile Ariadna ordusunun en ileri (!) teknolojilerinin bazılarına sahip olmasının yanında, BS 13 ve Veteran özelliği sayesinde, Ariadna ordusunun en etkili savaşçılarından biridir.

Infinity: Bir Sci-Fi Savaş Oyunu

Blogu boşladığım dönemde Warhammer'den başka bir savaş oyununa daha sardırdım. Kulüpte hasıl olan, az minyatürle kısa zamanda oyun oynayıp bitirme eğilimine bir çözüm olarak skirmish bir oyuna başlamaya karar verdik. Kulüpten arkadaşım Mereghost'un araştırmaları sonucu, Infinity ve Malifaux arasında bir seçim yapıp Infinity'i tercih ettik.

Infinity, İspanyol Corvus Belli firmasının çıkardığı, sci-fi bazlı bir savaş oyunu. Kuralları ücretsiz olarak indirilebiliyor, ayrıca güzel de bir wikisi war. Oyunun kuralları ve oynanışı hakkında genel bilgi edinmek için güzel videolar da hazırlamışlar, bir göz atın derim.

Infinity ordularından tercihim Ariadna oldu. Bu ordu, bulunan bir "worm hole"den geçip, oradaki bir gezegeni kolonize etmek için yol çıkan bir konvoyun ilk gemisi olan SS Ariadna'nın taşıdığı öncüler aslında. SS Ariadna'dan sonra worm holeden geçecek uzay gemisi worm holeyi çökertince kaderleriyle başbaşa kalan bu tayfa, hedefledikleri gezegene yerleşip, hayatta kalmaya yönelik bir yaşam tarzı benimsemişler. Hayatta kalmanın en önemli dürtü olduğu her toplumda olduğu gibi teknolojik ilerleme, bilim ve sanatın çok da ilerlemediği bir "medeniyet" durumunda Ariadna şu anda. İlk koloniciler olarak, aralarında Ruslar'dan Fransızlar'a, İskoçlar'dan Amerikalılar'a pek çok ülkeden insanın bulunduğu Ariadna ordusu, düşük teknolojisine rağmen üstün kamuflaj yeteneklerine sahip, ucuz askerlerden oluşan, keyifli bir ordu.

Display Board Projem Tamamlandı

Offf.... Blogu boşladığımın farkındaydım da 9 aydan fazladır bir şey eklemediğimi yeni farkettim. Geçen bu kadar zamanda boş durmadım tabi. Yaptığım pek çok şey var da, onları zamanla eklerim. Önce şu display board haberi aradan çıksın da...

Yaklaşık 1 ay kadar önce, Storm The Castle diye bir site keşfettim, Will diye bir arkadaş işletiyor bu siteyi. Will, envai çeşit DIY (Do It Yourself) projeye imza atacak kadar yetenekli ve bunları tutorial haline getirecek kadar da disiplinli bir kardeşimiz. Neyse, sitesine girince görürsünüz adamın neler yaptığını da, asıl beni harekete geçiren Diorama Tutorial'ı oldu.

Bu tutorialdaki püf noktası, Will'in yer şekillerini oluştururken kullandığı metot oldu. Temel olarak adamın yaptığı, karton şeritlerle iskelet yapmak, bu iskeleti gazete kağıdı ile doldurmak, sonra da üzerini derz dolguya ya da beyaz çimento benzeri bir maddeye bandırılmış kağıt havlular ile örtmek. Bu sayede, alçı kuruduktan sonra hem sağlam, hem yer şekillerine benzeyen yüzeyler elde etmek mümkün oluyor.

Bu metot, uzun süredir aklımda olan bu display board projesine başlamamı sağladı. Çünkü ben, Will'in metotunu görene kadar, temel malzeme olarak styrofoam denilen pembe izolasyon köpüğünü kullanmayı düşünüyordum. Köpük söz konusu olunca hem şekillendirmek zor, hem de boyaması; zira sprey boyaların içindeki itici gaz, köpüğü eritiyou ve benim bir airbrush'um yok :( Oysa alçı söz konusu olunca, hem şekillendirme hem de boyama konusunda kolaylıkları ortada.

Alçı tamam da, ben bunu evin içinde yapacağım. Her tarafı alçıya bulamak olmaz diye düşünürken çözümü buldum: Alçılı Sargı Bezi. Aslında medikal bir malzeme tabi bu ama; özellikle tren modelcileri tarafından diorama yapımında sık kullanılan bir malzemeymiş. Medikal dükkanlarında da bulursunuz tabi; ama ben Hobbytime'den aldım. Fiyatı gayet ucuz bir çözüm. Uygulanması da aynı: İhtiyaç kadar kopar, ılık suya bandır, süz, yerleştir.

Alçılı bez ile kabayı yapmak kolay; ama kompozisyonu önceden çizmek gerekiyor; aksi takdirde süs elemanlerını yerleştirirken sıkıntı yaşanır. Bu benim bu ölçekte ilk projem olduğundan ben bayağı bir sıkıntı yaşadım, siz de yaşamayın diye bunun altını iyice bir çizeyim dedim ;)

Neyse, lafı çok uzattım. Yazının arasına birkaç foto ekledim zaten. Bir ara ordumu üzerine yerleştirip birkaç foto çekeceğim, onları da bilahare eklerim. Son olarak, projedeki ilerlemenin adım adım gözükeceği bir slide show için bağlantıya tıklayabilirsiniz.

MetuCon 2010'da Warhammer

Bu sene MetuCon'u 23-25 Nisan tarihlerinde idrak ettik. Katılımın yoğun, organizasyonun da başarılı olduğu bu senenin MetuCon'unda, Karargah'tan gelen arkadaşların da katılımıyla, cumartesi günü bir WHFB turnuvası düzenledik.

Kurallar, İzmirCon'dakine oldukça benzerdi: 1500pts, açık liste usulü; fakat eliminasyon usulü değil de isviçre sistemini kullandık. Bu sayede her oyuncu 3 maç yaptı. Nihai skorlar ise, maç puanları artı modelcilik ve sportmenlik puanlarının toplamıyla oluştu. Toplam 8 kişinin katıldığı turnuva sonucu sıralama şu şekilde oluştu:

1. Fırat (Dark Elves)
2. Burak (Dwarfs)
3. Kyle (Daemons of Chaos)

Sportmenlik Ödülü: Efe
En İyi Boyalı Ordu: Kyle

Turnuvadaki 3 maçımda 2 massacre 1 de solid galibiyet almama rağmen 3 massacre ile birinci olan Fırat'ı geçemeyip ikincilikle yetindim, sağlık olsun. Esas önemli husus, son maçımda karşılaştığım Kyle ve Cheese of Chaos ordusunu massacre etmem oldu. Uzun süreden beri uzaklardan birbirimize meydan okuyorduk, sonunda yeşil sahalara çıkıp kimin daha iyi general olduğunu gösterme fırsatını buldum, heh... :)

Karargah kulübünden arkadaşlarla beraber katıldığımız bu ikinci organizasyonla beraber aramızdaki ilişkiler gitgide kuvvetleniyor. Artık gerçek manada ulusal bir organizasyon yapılabilecek altyapı yavaş yavaş oluşmaya başlıyor kanaatindeyim. bakalım zaman ne getirecek...

Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8. Sürüm Geliyor

Maşallah 2 aydır tembellik yapmışım. Bu arada pek çok şey oldu tabi. Aklıma gelen en önemli gelişmelerden biri, Warhammer Fantasy Battles için 8. sürüm kuralların gelecek olması.

Games Workshop, WHFB 8. sürümün çıkarılacağını duyurduktan sonra, farklı kaynaklardan gelen rivayetlerden dolayı acayip bir bilgi kirliliği yaşandı. Bunların bir kısmı doğrulandı, çoğu ise yalanlandı. Ben en çok, Warseer'den bilgi almayı tercih ettim, zira Avian'ın rivayetleri genelde doğru çıkar.

Öncelikle piyasaya çıkış tarihlerinden bahsetmem gerekirse, 10 Temmuz'da ordu kitapları için pdf erratalar yayımlanacak, 12 Temmuz'da da rulebook piyasaya sürülecek denmekte. Yani yaklaşık bir aylık bir süre kaldı bu satırlar yazılırken...

Yukarıda verdiğim Warseer forum bağlantısından da okuyabileceğiniz üzere, söylentilerin yarısı bile doğru olsa, 8. sürümde oyun epeyce değişiyor. Detaya girecek değilim; ama şunu söylemek yeterli: Oyunun her fazında değişiklik var. Evet, movementte bile...

Daha fazla spekülasyon yapmadan önce kural kitabını okumak lazım diyip bitireceğim; ancak kural kitabının 500+ sayfa olacağına dair rivayetler de mevcut. Eh, eğer bu doğruysa, 8. sürüm değerlendirmesi için biraz bekleyeceksiniz demektir...

İlk "Unit Filler"im

23 Nisan tatilinde Ankara'da olacağım. MetuCon Bayramı bu sene 23-25 Nisan arası. Cuma ve pazar günleri LARP oynayacağım; ancak cumartesi günü Warhammer günü.

Aslında ilk başta, İzmirCon turnuvası için İzmir'e gelen Karargah Kulübü'nden Kyle ile 4000 puanlık bir maç yapma planımız vardı; ancak katılan Warhammerci arkadaşların sayısının artması üzerine, bir turnuva yapma ihtimali belirdi.

İster turnuva olsun, ister 4000 puanlık maç olsun, denemek için yaptığım rosterlerde şunu farkettim ki, core birliklerimin sayısı, olması gerekenin çok ama çok altında. Eksikleri tamamlamak için zamanım az olduğundan, bir unit filler yaptım.
Unit filler, rank and file birliklerde, birden çok modelin yerini kaplayan, o birlik için özel olarak temaya büründürülmüş minyatürlere verilen ad. Aslında uzun zamandır aklımda böyle bir şey yapmak vardı. Daha önceden bahsettiğim CoolMiniorNot sitesinde pek çok unit filler görmüştüm ve aklıma fikirler gelmişti.

Sonuç da fena olmadı gibi...

Dwarf Lord on Shieldbearers

Her Warhammer oyuncusu ordusunun iyi boyalı olmasını ister, orası kesin; ama kahramanlara biraz daha özenilir. İşte bu nedenle, halihazırda elimde olmasına rağmen boyasından memnun olmadığım Dwarf Lord on shieldbearers modelinin yerine bir tane daha boyadım.

Öncelikle şunu söyleyeyim ki, gerek Thorgrim, gerekse bu shieldbearer modelini tasarlayan adamlar belli ki çok eğlenmiş ve ortaya güzel bir ürün çıkarmış. Modelin kendisi bu kadar güzel olunca, ortalama bir boya işiyle bile çok hoş sonuçlar elde edilebiliyor.

Keşke bu model İzmirCon'dan önce gelseydi de küçük minyatürler kategorisini de kazansaydım, heh...

İzmirCon mesaisi bitti. O sürede biriken işleri de yoluna koydum sayılır ve artık normal hayatıma dönüyorum yavaştan, hem de bir ödülle...

İzmirCon'da Warhammer başlıklı yazımda da belirttiğim gibi, İzmirCon'da hem bir WHFB turnuvası hem de boyalı minyatür yarışması düzenledik. Ben conventionda görevli olduğum için turnuvaya -maalesef- katılamadım; ancak boyalı minyatür yarışmasının her iki kategorisine de birer çalışmamla katıldım.

Yarışmadaki iki kategoriden ilki, küçükler kategorisi, "large" olmayan her türlü on-foot ve normal binekler üzerindeki humanoid minyatürleri içeriyordu. Sağdaki, Dwarf Lord with Hammer modelini yarışmaya hazırladığımdan daha önce de bahsetmiştim, eski okuyucularım hatırlayacaktır. Küçük minyatürler kategorisine bu minyatür ile katıldım.

Büyük minyatürler kategorisi ise basitçe, geri kalan her şeyi içeriyordu. "Large" minyatürler, savaş makineleri, tanklar, humanoid olmayan canavarlar, vb... Bu kategorideki adayım zaten çok uzun zaman önce belliydi: Dwarf High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer and the Throne of Power... İsmi kadar heybetli olan bu çok parçalı metal minyatürü yaklaşık 3 ay önce boyamıştım ve Kule'deki arkadaşlardan çok iyi yorumlar almıştım.

İzmirCon'un ilk günü olan cumartesi günü bir yandan turnuva devam ederken, diğer yandan da boyalı minyatür yarışması adayları sergilendi. Küçükler kategorisinde 13, büyükler kategorisinde 8 çalışmanın katıldığı yarışmanın değerlendirmesi 3 kişilik jüri tarafından yapıldı. Yarışmanın sonucunda, küçükler kategorisinde İstanbul Karargah Kulübü'nden arkadaşımız Fırat Uğurlu, The Masque modeliyle birinci oldu. Büyük minyatürler kategorisinde ise birinciii... Evet, Thorgrim ile bu kategoriyi kazandım! Benim gibi, bu hobide oldukça yeni olan birisi için gerçekten çok umut verici bir başarı oldu bu.

Boyama yarışmasının heyecanıyla turnuvadan bahsetmedim. Üçü İstanbul Karargah Kulübü'nden gelen arkadaşlarımız olan 8 katılımcıyla düzenlenen 1. İzmirCon Warhammer Fantasy Battles Turnuvası sonuçları şu şekilde oluştu:

1. Kyle Cruickshank (Daemons of Chaos)
2. Asım Mert Seyfioğlu (Vampire Counts)
3. Fırat Uğurlu (Daemons of Chaos)

Kule Sakinleri 4. Warhammer Fantasy Ligi Sonuçlandı

Yaklaşık 2 aydır sürdürdüğümüz kulüp ligimiz, 14 Mart 2010'da oynadığımız final maçı ile sona erdi.

Toplam 10 katılımın olduğu bu ligde finali, grup maçlarında da eşleşmiş olduğum Lizardmen oyuncusu Semih üstatla oynadık. Maç öncesi seramonisinin görüntüleri:

Ligde yaptığımız maçı, Thane of Pain buildim ve Slann'ın kötü zarları sayesinde kazanmayı başarmıştım; ama belli ki koca kurbağayı kızdırmışım. Bu maçta resmen canıma okuyan Slann ve şürekası, aslan parçası cücelerimi avuç avuç kaldırınca katliama maruz kaldım ve ligi ikinci tamamladım.

Eski oyuncularla yenilerin birlikte maç yapıp kaynaşmasını sağlayan bu tür organizasyonları devam ettirmeliyiz.

Turnuva sıralaması şu şekilde gerçekleşti:

1. Temple of the Mists (Semih - Lizardmen)
2. Thorgrim'in Fedaileri (Burak - Dwarfs)
3. Athel Lorenspor (Erdinç - Wood Elves)

Son bir not olarak, aslen bir dark elf oyuncusu olan Erdinç'in ilk kez bu turnuvada denediği wood elf ordusu ile gösterdiği başarının altını çizmek istiyorum. Hem lig şampiyonumuz Semih'i hem de Erdinç'i tebrik ediyorum.

İzmirCon'daki boyalı minyatür yarışmasından bahsetmiştim daha önce. Yarışmadaki "büyük" kategoriye Thorgrim ile gireceğim, o kesin de "küçük" kategorisi için içime sinen bir model yoktu. Bu nedenle bir thane boyadım geçtiğimiz günlerde.

Gerçi Semih üstadı geçmek zor; ama bari challenge verelim...

Minyatür Değerlendirme Sitesi - CoolMiniorNot

Yaşı yetenler bilir, bir ara "Hot or Not" diye bir site mevcuttu. Genç kardeşlerimiz oraya abuk subuk fotolarını koyardı, ziyaretçiler de kendilerine random olarak gösterilen fotoları puanlardı falan. Daha sonra iş çığrından çıktı, "Rate my Poo" gibi siteler çıktı ki burda anlatacak değilim içeriği :)

Efendim bu mantığın, minyatürler üzerindeki izdüşümü de, CoolMiniorNot adlı site. Esasında bu site, sadece değerlendirmeden ibaret değil, girince kurcalarsınız.

Hem insanlar ne yapıyor diye bakıp fikir edinmek, hem de minyatürlerini sergileyip objektif yorumlar almak isteyenler için gerçekten güzel bir site.

Bir Avuç Ironbreaker

Ordu listelerinde çok nadir Ironbreaker kullanan biri olarak, elimdeki Ironbreaker modellerini, boyama sıralamamda sürekli geriye atıyordum. Geçen hafta, uzun süredir rafların bir köşesinden bana bakan modelleri görünce, zamanının geldiğini düşünüp girişiverdim.

Esasında Ironbreakerleri sevmememin iki nedeni var. Birincisi, special slotta yer alması. Malum, pek çok savaş makinesi, minerler, slayerler ve hammererler hep special slotu işgal ediyor. Ayrıca, aynı puana sahip Ironbreaker ile kalkan kuşanmış Hammerer arasında bir seçim yapacak olsam her zaman, Hammererlerin Stubborn özelliğini, Ironbreakerlerin zırhına tercih ederim.

Ironbreakerleri sevmememin diğer nedeni ise tamamen kişisel. Bu Ironbreakerlerin büyük kısmını, acemilik zamanında yaptığım bir eBay alışverişi sonucu edinmiştim. Bu modeller önceden boyanmış; fakat boyası çıkarılmış modellerdi. Açıkçası, bayağı bir detay kaybı olmuş. Buna bir de, modellerin kalkansız gelmiş olmasını ekleyince modellerden iyice soğudum. Resimlerde yer alan Ironbreaker kalkanları, sonradan sıfır olarak aldığım Ironbreaker kutusundan çıktı. Çok güzel kalkanlar, keşke bit olarak satılsa...

İzmirCon'da Warhammer

İzmirCon'un etkinlikleri yavaş yavaş belli oluyor. Açıklanan ilk etkinlikler Warhammer üzerine oldu. Games Workshop distribütörü Oversoul'un ödül sponsorluğunda bir Warhammer Fantasy turnuvası ve Boyalı Minyatür Yarışması düzenlenecek İzmirCon'da.

Kule Sakinleri, 2008 Temmuz'da İzmir'de kurmuş olduğumuz bir hobi topluluğu. Hemen web adresini vereyim öncelikle:

Hobi topluluğu kavramı Türkiye'de pek bilinen bir kavram değil. Bu nedenle, bu topluluğun ne olduğunu, ne iş yaptığını anlatmak benim için bayağı bir zor oluyor.

Kabaca, eski dostlarla buluştuğumuz, yeni arkadaşlarla tanıştığımız, yani şeyler öğrendiğimiz ve belki de en önemlisi çok eğlendiğimiz bir oluşum bu.

Warhammer ve rol yapma oyunlarına meraklı olan ve yolu İzmir'e düşen arkadaşların mutlaka uğramasını öneririm.

Herkese selamlar,

Uzuuun bir süre boyunca, kendime şöyle güzel bir web sayfası hazırlayayım bahanesiyle blog işinden uzak durdum; ama artık zamanı geldi sanırım.

Bu blogda çoğunlukla, en büyük hobim olan rol yapma oyunları ve Warhammer'den bahsedeceğim, bolca fotoğraf koyup hava atacağım falan...

Ha, bir de bu aralar conventionlar mevsimine girdik. Eğer zamanım uyarsa bu sene de birkaç şehir dışı conventiona katılmak istiyorum. Con gurmesi olarak yorumlarımı da yazabilirim haliyle.
